Collin Peterson votes against climate protection

Some years ago I was a columnist for the Becker County Record, which was published out of Detroit Lakes. One of the columns that I wrote was about Collin Peterson’s struggle to decide whether he was a Democrat or a Republican. He had been a Minnesota State Senator and, at the time, was a newly elected Democratic member of Congress. For some months he publicly struggled with the idea of rebranding himself as a Republican. In my column I mocked his political lack of principle and pointed out that he was already voting like a Republican. Peterson ultimately decided to continue to market himself as a Democrat but over the years he has continued to vote very much like a Republican in many areas. This is especially true in the area of climate disruption and climate chaos. An analysis of his voting record on issues of climate disruption and climate protection has Representative Peterson voting in favor of climate disruption three-quarters of the time. A whopping 74% of the time Collin Pe

Not Dave Hughes for Congress

Dave Hughes is running against Collin Peterson for the 7th Congressional seat in Congress. The two debate in Verndale on October 23rd at 6 pm at the Lions Club. I wish Peterson were a more liberal Member of Congress . . . but we’re stuck with him. Hughes is an ardent Trump supporter and, as such, is not somebody we want in Congress. I won’t make the Verndale debate so I created a little virtual debate. I  start with an introduction of Dave Hughes and then, taken from his website, list his policy positions. My responses are in parentheses. - Tim Here goes:  Dave Hughes is a 21 year veteran of the United States Air Force. He currently works for General Atomics as an MQ-9 UAS (Drone) Instructor Pilot, flying operational missions guarding both our northern and southern borders and training US Customs and Border Patrol aircrews. Congress should pass legislation to immediately release funding to construct a wall spanning our southern border.  (Why just the southern borde

Michael Moore's new film

There's an excellent review, by Glenn Greenwald, of Micheal Moore's new film at The Intercept. I  find it particularly appropriate when I see Democrats rolling out old dinosaurs like Joe Biden as a potential presidential candidate. Moore at anti-Trump rally in NYC - Wikipedia Here are the leading paragraphs from the review: “FAHRENHEIT 11/9,”  the title of Michael Moore’s new film that opens today in theaters, is an obvious play on the title of his wildly profitable Bush-era “Fahrenheit 9/11,” but also a reference to the date of Donald J. Trump’s 2016 election victory. Despite that, Trump himself is a secondary figure in Moore’s film, which is far more focused on the far more relevant and interesting questions of what – and, critically, who – created the climate in which someone like Trump could occupy the Oval Office. For that reason alone, Moore’s film is highly worthwhile regardless of where one falls on the political spectrum. The single most significant defect

Newberger, Kresha, and Poston: 100% Climate Disruptors

In a debate at the Minnesota State Fair Representative Jim Newberger, a candidate for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Amy Klobuchar, admitted that Earth's climate is warming. But, he said, there's nothing we can do about it because the sun is causing the rising temperatures. NASA actually investigated this theory. It's called solar variance. The premise is that our sun in giving off more heat then it used to and thus Earth's temperatures are rising. Here's what NASA says on its website: "Since 1978, a series of satellite instruments have measured the energy output of the sun directly. The satellite data show a very slight drop in solar irradiance (which is a measure of the amount of energy the sun gives off) over this time period. So the sun doesn't appear to be responsible for the warming trend observed over the past several decades." The Sun - Thanks to Wikipedia "Longer-term estimates of solar irradiance have been made using sunspo

The psychotic immigration policies of Minnesota Republicans

I've been working on a project this last week that has required me to look at the web sites and read the comments of Minnesota's candidates for governor, Senator, and Members of the U.S. Congress. I have been struck by how some of the candidates say things that contradict reality. Jeff Johnson, a candidate for Minnesota Governor, writes that "I am pro-life" and that "My Christian faith guides every decision I make." He goes on to say: "There is no more important issue than protecting innocent life. Not only is this a moral issue, recent breakthroughs in science and technology have made even more clear that we must protect the life of the unborn. I am Pro-Life and believe in the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death." State Representative Jim Newberger is running against Senator Klobuchar. Like Jeff Johnson, Rep. Newbeger has made an issue of his support for Donald Trump's policies. On his website Newburger writes:
